Eggspectation – Ellicott City, MD

Eggspectation is a restaurant that all of a sudden kept popping up for my attention everywhere I looked. Urbanspoon, groupon, my facebook feed and what not! I started to salivate when I finally decided to look up their menu and decided that we have to go there. I was expecting it to be like a run of the mill franchise restaurant when it comes to the ambiance but I was extremely surprised as I walked in the door and felt it was decorated for fall and had a small restaurant feel to it. My world was instantly transformed into a cozy little cottage with a bookshelf and a fireplace and eating pancakes on a dinning table full of friends. Oh maybe a scene out of Harry potter where all the wizarding students sit and eat their dinners. Ah this could just be my imagination running wild…mildly. The prices were alittle high ranging from 10 to 22 dollars for an entree which I wasn’t expecting but the food that we ordered wasn’t bad and the portions were pretty big.

Hubby and Mike ordered the eggstravaganza breakfast platters. Hubby substituted french toast for pancakes and I am glad he did cause we got to try both of those items and trust me they were delicious! The pancakes were fluffy and moist. And the french toast was the right amount of sweet and moist! The eggs were requested scrambled and were light , fluffy and airy as described by both boys (I rarely eat eggs by themselves cause they give me severe stomach ache) The potatoes that came with the platter were mild in flavor but there was something about it that just made them unique I wish hubby had more on his plate so I could have stolen more lol

I am not sure but I always pull random stunts like these where I go to a breakfast place and order a non breakfast item hence I ended up with cajun Alfredo pasta that came with butternut squash soup!  We decided to order fried green tomatoes as appetizer. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. The butternut squash soup was more like a dessert but that doesnt mean it wasn’t delicious. It gave me the warm and fuzzy feeling you expect from a pie! The cajun Alfredo Pasta was alright nothing terrible but nothing too exciting but but but…the leftovers when heated over the frying pan next day were unlike any other I have tasted before. The pasta had this sear on it which gave it a nice smokey taste. I jokingly told my husband that if I were to ever buy cajun pasta from there I’d bring the entire thing home to heat on the stove and eat cause it tastes extremely yummy that way.

So all in Eggspectation met my Eggpectations….yeah while waiting for food we played this game where we added eggs in all the “e” words we used …dorky? yes….but thats who we are and thats why I love my time hanging out with the boys so much.

Bgr The Burger Joint- Best Burger I have ever had with the Uniquest/Fanciest Soda Machine!

The Southwestern with Onion Rings

We found this gem of a place thanks to my amazing foodie cousin and her hubby! I will be forever grateful to her for this epic find. If you live in a state where Bgr Joint is located run to it NOW, you will not be disappointed! Check out locations here.

Bgr Joint Menu boasts all kinds of Fancy Shamancy Burgers such as the Wellington which is described as “Roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, garlic with a touch of mustard seed and blue cheese”, The Ahi Tuna – “Fresh sushi-grade tuna topped with grilled pineapple, pickled ginger, a touch of teriyaki sauce, and our mojo sauce” and tons more!

Before I jump into describing the two delicious burgers that are my favorite at BGR Joint. Let me enlighten you with this amazing Soda Machine that is located at Columbia, MD branch. It is a very unique Soda machine with flavors of Soda that are not even locally available: Here is a quick run down of a few I have tried: Peach or Cherry or Raspberry or Strawberry Sprite, Cherry or Pineapple or Raspberry Fanta, Vanilla Bangs root beer etc.

That soda machine is enough for me to keep returning to the store. My first day there I got “The Greek” which is a lamb burger seasoned with cumin, mint and garlic. Topped with tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. It was featured on Food Network’s Throw Down with Bobby Flay and it won! I have to say it was pretty delicious. My second visit there I tried the Southwestern which is a very unique kind of burger something that I have never seen anywhere else before! This burger is infused with southwestern influences, like chipotles, poblanos, onion and chilis. Topped with pepper jack and served atop mango black bean salsa. Soooo yummy! It is always so hard for me to pick between the two burgers. Hubby has lately been just getting a regular Burger. He says he likes that the best off the menu! But trust me everytime I offer him a bite of whatever I decided to get that day he gets a second thought that maybe he should have gotten that Haha. I need to pay BGR joint a visit this weekend for sure! The onion rings are huge and perfectly scrumptious. The fries although nothing fancy but are quite yummy as well. You could also order sweet potato fries or grilled asparagus. I have yet to try both of those but knowing how amazing the rest of the menu is I am sure they are worth every penny as well.

Not to mention they have milkshakes. I haven’t yet had enough space in my stomach to try them after having one of their moderately priced but Humongous burgers. You know you want some now! Try it and let me know what you think 🙂

Unfortunately I was too hungry and impatient to take pictures of the Lamb or Hubby’s regular hamburger but I will update the post with new pictures once I stop by the Bgr Joint again!

Seafood heaven – Tackle Box

Sunday nights seem to be food posts for me. I guess I am a little too hungry around this time 🙂

Anyhow saw this place on groupon and was a little intrigued. I am not big on seafood but the moment I saw the pictures of all the wood grilled fish online I knew I had to go! And from what I noticed they are on groupon quite often so definitely look out for them !

Tackle Box has a tiny hut by the beach type feel to it. They are located in Georgetown, D.C. (A block from Georgetown cupcakes..mmm).Their menu boasts of at least 6 different types of wood grilled fish such as Tilapia, Haddock, Trout and Catfish to name a few. You can get get a Maine meal for only 13.50 which includes one fish with two sides and a sauce. I mean who wouldn’t get two sides when the menu includes items such as fried green tomatoes, sweet potato fries apart from regular fries, corn bread, mac& cheese and God knows what else! It was just sooo much to take in!

After looking over the menu several times we decided to order fish tacos something the Tackle Box is really famous for. We also ordered a side of french fries and fried green tomatoes. I have never had fried green tomatoes so I was extremely excited to try them.

Ah…the Tilapia was wood grilled to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning! The cheese, salsa and sour cream was added to the exact quantity that I would like on my tacos! The fries are just any plane jane fries! They had some sort of scrumptious seasoning on them and were devoured by us immediately. The fried green tomatoes initially seemed like an acquired taste to me but the more I ate them I more I grew in love with them.

I am looking forward to going back to Tackle box and trying out there Lobster Pot which consists off :Maine lobster (1 1/4 lb each), grilled red onions, quahog clams, white water mussels, chorizo sausage, potatoes, corn on the cob, lemon, rockweed, drawn butter & Tackle Box spice.  Sounds yummy!

Here is a picture of the Lobster Pot snagged from the Company’s website. Yummmy!

Pupuseria El Buen Gusto(El Salvadorian Restaurant)

Pupuseria El Buen Gusto(El Salvadorian Restaurant) – Fairfax, VA

Hey everyone I know I have been MIA with my food posts. Its not that I haven’t been eating anything trust me my camera is bursting with pictures just like I am bursting after eating all the delicious food. It’s just that I have been too fashion inclined and have been slacking off on the food aspect! But worry not here I am with one of my fave food places that I found by chance on yelp! It was so worth driving close to 40 miles one way to eat there! And as soon as I get a chance I will do so again.

I decided to go shopping at Tyson’s corner mall just because I knew this gem off a place that I had read reviews about on yelp is only a 15 minutes drive from there. Yes I had to find a reason to drive that far for food cause I have been doing nothing but eating nonstop! Just like it was described by other customers it looks like a hole in the wall type place. But the promise of delicious El Salvadorian Food didn’t budge me at all. I walked in to find this really friendly lady working at the counter. And trust me she was very nice and friendly throughout the time we were there! I will rate them 20 out of 5 for their service!

I decided to try a pupusas which is one of the main attractions that brought me here. They are only 2 dollars a piece! Pupusas for those of you who don’t know are hand made corn tortilla. Very soft and filled with cheese, rice or beans or pork and beans. We ordered one cheese pupusa and one with beans! It was heavenly. As you can tell I have no pictures of it posted here. I ate it all and then realized oops too late 🙂 They came with vinegary yellow cabbage and tiny bowl of salsa! Ah….I can just savor the taste on my tongue again! Trust me you don’t want to miss out on this!

Next we ordered chicken tamale. I haven’t had a tamale before so I had nothing to compare this to but all I have to say is it was scrumptious! The deliciously marinated chicken with chickpeas and peppers (not spicy at all) wrapped in a soft dough and steamed! I want one right now so badly if only they were closer, I would stop writing this post and just drive over!

For our main dish we ordered something called Lomo Saltado which when we read sounded interesting and weird but once you get past the “ah interesting” phase and order it, trust me you will not be disappointed. It is one of the best restaurant dishes I have every tasted. It is sauteed beef with peppers, onions, tomato and seasoned french fries…yes I said it french fries. And nowthe french fries are not on the side! They are part of the sauteed beef! And it comes with delicious side of buttery white rice which was cooked to perfection! It was heaven on a plate! I need to find a recipe to cook Lomo Saltado so I can savor this dish anytime I want. If I get that task accomplished I will totally share it with you guys! So all in all I give this place a 10 out of 10 for the food, the service and authenticity! And all our food came upto about 26 dollars for 2 people! Can you beat that? This is one good find that I will cherish for years to come!

Yummy Dessert: La Madeline- Columbia Maryland

Image

Desserts:  La Madeleine – Columbia M.D

I had just stuffed myself on some delicious lunch and was thinking about a place where I could find some delicious pastry style or cutesy desserts. Driving past La Madeleine I recalled that I always wanted to stop in to try their desserts and bakery goods. I am so glad I did. This is going to be a  place I will go back to at least once a week not just because the desserts are amazing but also because they come in variety of sizes depending on how hungry or full you are!

Walking in I didn’t have very high expectations but the look on my face completely changed to that of a kid walking in a candy store when I saw the wide array of mouth watering dessert and bakery options (The picture doesn’t do any justice). Full Review
